The thing is, were you REALLY doing it for the sake of mother nature, or was it the cool thing to do?Something to talk about with your friends? Some kind of a guilt redemption scheme; alienate yourself from technologies for an hour with the hope that you could justify the need to switch on the air-con for the whole day- even when u're not in the room?
Aku tak sambut Earth Hour.
I was busy finishing up my EAP asignment. I thought i would lose out on the opportunity to be involved in some world-wide vote for mother nature. How I was wrong. Hakikatnya, kat umah aku sendiri, lampu porch dan backyard dibuka(mak aku masih paranoid pasal pencuri). Dalam gelap, terdengar bunyi kipas berpusing sambil sayup2 kedengaran suara gampang AC Mizal mengacarakan AF. Adik aku kata kite off je mane yg boleh kite off. TV taley bhaii...itu alat untuk membodohkan minda kita.
An hour past, and I don't think any significant thing actually happen. Mankind tend to forget(check the Holy Quran). Seriously, what do we expect? after that fateful hour, people will start realizing their mistakes? a massive increase in car poolers and public transport enthusiasts? no more trees cut down just to make millions of pamphlets for the masssive marketing effort of an hour worth of no electricity?
None of that will happen.
Look at that freeze unison thing. Betul ke semua yang beku hari tu untuk perpaduan kaum, keamanan dunia?Malaysians are still going around with wearing their race on the sleeve. Lebih setengah abad kita merdeka, masih ada yang mahu mendabik dada, katanya ini tanah milik hak mutlak sesuatu kaum.
I'm not trying to ruin the party. Keep patting yourself on the back, despite that you would still live your extravagant life full of wastage. On a positive note, at least this campaign could succeed in creating awareness about the magnitude of the environmental problem nowadays. People need to see that it is cool to be green, then they will be attracted to it, feel that they are involved and responsible to it. Slow and steady, we might be heading into a better living condition. But for now, please, please don't make it as an Earth Hour. Let's do our part in any way we can. That includes
- Reduce, reuse,recycle (duhh!)
- Put your air-con on timer-mode. you dont need to freeze when u sleep
- Conserve water and energy whenever you can
- jangan pakai bangkai binatang
- cakap serupa bikin ah wei
macam lina cakap, takkan nak tunggu setahun lagi baru nak tutup letrik untuk sejam. Rasionalnya, kalau sayang boyfriend/ girlfriend, takkan kau cuma tunjuk untuk satu hari sajakan?mestila kita nak bagitau kat dia setiap minit setiap saat yang kita sayang si dia, kan?
